영어 논문 쓰는 방법 (1) Introduction 서론

아직 직접 논문을 쓰지는 않았지만 학교에서 논문 잘 쓰는 법 수업을 들었었다. 

그 수업에서 배운 내용을 포스팅해보려고 한다. 

(그 때는 아직도 논문이 없을 줄 상상도 못했었는데) 

 

오늘은 Introduction! 서론에 관한 포스팅이다.

 

 

서론은 세가지로 구성되어 있다.

 

1. Background 

2. Gap 

3. My study 

 

1. Background 

가장 먼저 이 연구의 목적과 중요성에 대한 설명이 필요하다. 

그리고 그것을 뒷받침 하는 근거에 대해서 설명하는 것이 중요하다. 

그러한 것들은 우리가 알고 있던 사실, 어떤 현상에 대한 명명, 이전 연구 결과에 대한 설명 등의 내용을 포함한다. 

 

"What do we know?"

"What has been proven?" 

 

2. Gap

이 부분에서는 선행 연구가 가지고 있는 한계에 대해서 설명한다. 

이전 연구 결과에서 우리가 알지 못했던 부분 또는 이전 연구를 대체할 수 있는 더 좋은 방법 등의 내용을 포함한다. 

 

'What don't we know?'

"What can't we do?"

"What hasn't been proven yet?"

Alternative / better method. 

 

 

3. My study 

2의 gap을 채우는 나의 연구에 대해서 설명한다. 

그 gap을 채우기 위해서 나의 연구에서는 무엇을 하였는지 방법과 결과에 대한 내용을 포함한다. 

그 때 그 기대 효과에 대해서 설명할 수 있다.

논문의 서론은 1, 2, 3 의 순서로 이루어지지만

작성할 때는 3, 2, 1 의 순서로 작성하는 것이 좋다. 

 

Specific to general 의 순서로 가면 그 연결 흐름이 자연스럽다. 

그러면 "How General"을 결정하기 쉽다. 

 

마지막 tip

중요한 것이 있다면 짧게 쓰는 것이 좋다. 

이 연구의 목적을 먼저 쓰는 것이 좋다. (purpose first)

3. Explaining the key terminology in your field.

X is defined / indentified / described as ...

 

4. Outlining the possible future of X 

In the next few years X will become / is likely to have become

Within the next few years, X is set / destined / likely to become an important component in ... 

 

5. Indicating the gap in knowledge and possible limitations 

Previous work has only focused on / beend limited to / failed to address ...

A basic / common / fundamental / crucial / major issue of ... 

It is not yet known / has not yet been established whether X can do Y. 

X is stilly poorly / not widely understood. 

A major defect / difficulty /drawback / disadvantage / flaw of X is ...

There is still some / much / considerable controversy surrounding ...

 

6. Stating the aim of your paper and its contribution

In this report / paper / review / study we ...

This paper outlines / proposes / describes / presents a new approach to ...

The aim of our work / research / study / analysis was to further /extend / widen / broaden current knowledge of ...

The aim of this study is to study / evaluate / validate / determine / examine / analyze / calculate / estimate / frmulate ...
